Girls' Track Ties for First with Danbury

Girls’ track team faced track powerhouse Danbury in the O’Grady Relays in Danbury on Saturday. (4/24) The Wave mailed it landing a tie for first place with Danbury.
The 4x800m team consisting of junior Julia Boulton, sophomore Leslie Yuen (pictured), freshman Caroline Weihs and junior Amanda Dobler took 6th place with a combined time of 10:13.35.
The sprint medley relay team run sophomore Katy Close, junior Alex Iqbal, senior captain Meredith Jordan and junior Megan Keane finished in 3rd place with a combined time of 4:24.71.
The 4x400m team also finished in 3rd place with a time of 4:14.64 and was run by Dobler, Iqbal, junior Elizabeth Crafford and sophomore Claire Gaffney.
Senior Hannah Lyons, Yuen(pictured) and freshman Grace Loh(pictured) took 5th place in the 2000m steeplechase.
Junior Charlotte Phillips, Keane, Jordan and senior Meg Murphy ran the 4x200m relay team and took 4th place with a time of 1:51.65.
Darien also took first in the pole vault, long jump, triple jump and high jump.
Senior captain Christy Gasparino, senior Mackenzie Jones and junior Sarah Dailey jumped a combined height of 14’8 to take first in the high jump.
Crafford, sophomore Katie Southworth and junior Lee Bolton vaulted over a combined height of 24’6 to take first in the pole vault.
With a combined jump of 101’2, Gasparino, sophomore Robin Bone and Gaffney took first in the triple jump.
With a combined jump of 46’8, Bone, Phillips and Jones took 1st place in the long jump and broke the meet record that had previously been held by Danbury with a combined jump of 45’11 set in 2002.
Senior captain Aimee Rich took first in the hammer with a throw of 113’8.
And lastly, in the Co-ed 8x100m relay, Darien came in second just behind Danbury. This race was not scored, but was run by senior Jack Bushell, Jones, senior Brent Eppley, Gasparino, junior Kevin Keller, Murphy, junior Stockton McMullin and Jordan.
